Style Watch: Market Review

Market this October was absolutely out of this world. The ladies of White Dresses are so excited to share their latest finds and to fill brides in on what they can expect to see at White Dresses Huntsville and White Dresses Nashville within the upcoming year.

First, we should say that it was our Huntsville bridal shop owner's first trip to the City. We wanted to show Morgan around and make sure she got to see all the City had to offer! So, you will have to put up with us posting some silly pictures from the fun we had when we weren't drowning in bridal gowns.

Friday

On Friday we arrived in New York in just enough time to run to the Ines di Santo Runway Show. During our very first market, we attended the Ines di Santo Runway Show for our Alabama bridal boutique and we have been in love with her gowns ever since that date!

Ines di Santo presented a collection that was sophisticated, sexy, and dramatic - using gorgeous Chantilly laces, intricate beading, and gorgeous silk tulle to accomplish a truly jaw dropping collection. One of our favorite looks from the new collection was a new take on the high-low silhouette - creating the high-low portion of the skirt on the sides rather than the front and back.

Following our runway show, we headed to grab a quick bite at Room Service - our favorite Thai restaurant in the City. Oddly enough, we bumped into David from Alabama Weddings Magazine and Christopher Confero from Christopher Confero Designs while we were there! It is always so nice to bump into people from home when you are in the City!

Next, we headed to the East Village to meet with Tatyana Merenyuk for our Nashville bridal boutique. We have been so excited to meet this new designer since eyeing her pieces on Instagram a few months back - they are so ethereal and dreamy.

One of the things we loved most about Tatyana's gowns were how lightweight they were - perfect for the bride who is looking to get married outdoors.

Our next appointment felt like it was a little slice of home - we headed to see our Alabama gal in New York City. Jaw dropping new items from Heidi will be heading back to our Nashville bridal shop and Huntsville bridal shop very soon!

There were so many options from Heidi Elnora's Build a Bride line that we didn't know where to start! We are so excited about our finds and know our brides will love getting to create their own wedding gowns! We were excited to see the Vivienne Beau gown added to the Build a Bride line - we love this classic gown and know it will work perfectly with some of the laces pieces we found to bring home!

We ended our night with some extreme bridal eye candy at the JLM Press Show. Our Alabama bridal shop went to the show and focused on Hayley Paige's designs while our Tennessee bridal shop focused on Jim Hjelm's newest looks. Both were absolute perfection and we could barely contain our excitement until our writing appointment.

Before heading into the room, we headed over to Freemans Restaurant in the East Village for a tasty dinner. Now, we understand not everyone reading this will be full blown foodies - but those who are - oh my gosh!

Saturday

We started our morning off with Sarabeth's Kitchen. Every visit to the City (since Kara and I were literally little kids) has included a breakfast at Sarabeth's Kitchen. As usual, Sarabeth's didn't disappoint and was the perfect start to a busy day of bridal appointments!

We started our bridal appointments off with Modern Trousseau. Our Huntsville bridal boutique was focusing on new gown inventory for her boutique and we tagged along to drool over some of Modern Trousseau's latest additions.

Next, we headed to JLM Couture's office in the Garment District and had our writing appointments for both of our shops at Blush by Hayley Paige. We broke off later to view Hayley Paige gowns for the Alabama bridal boutique and Jim Hjelm gowns for our Tennessee bridal boutique.

Both of our shops viewed the Blush by Hayley Paige collection! We were so pleased with the gorgeous gowns offered by Hayley in this collection and absolutely can't wait to get them in store. Our Huntsville bridal shop selected two stunning ball gowns, an A-line gown, and a trumpet gown. Our Nashville bridal shop selected a gorgeous ball gown, two A-line gowns, and a stunning  trumpet gown.

Our Huntsville bridal shop then headed to select her Hayley Paige gowns. As many of you know, Hayley said I do this year to her dream man and she did so in four of the most gorgeous wedding gowns you have ever seen - all were incorporated into her latest collection.

After visiting with Hayley for a little while, we headed to the Jim Hjelm show to see some more Hayley designs! For those of you who don't know - Hayley has been quite the busy girl since she designs for her own collection, the Blush by Hayley Paige collection, and the Jim Hjelm Collection. Hayley also creates bridesmaids dresses for Occasions and created her own bridesmaids line this year based on the gowns her bridesmaids wore in her own wedding!

After a quick bite of lunch at a food truck, we headed to the Piers to see some stunning gowns and accessories. The Piers host a large group of bridal brands in one convenient location. This year we saw a.b. Ellie, Ellen Hunter, Erin Cole, and Stephanie Allin.

Our first stop was with the amazing Ellen Hunter! We can't quit swooning about how much we love these new accessories and the fact that Ellen focuses so much on gold has us giddy! Be looking for her stunning designs at both our Nashville bridal boutique and our Huntsville bridal boutique.

After visiting with Ellen Hunter, we headed to visit with Erin Cole. We absolutely adore carrying Erin Cole's designs in both of our boutiques and found some simply stunning pieces for both shops!

Next we visited with a.b. Ellie, picking up some amazing sashes and one simply adorable headpiece that we just can't get over! We were on the hunt this season for amazing headpieces to bring back and when we walked into a.b. Ellie's booth we spotted this stunner right away! We were obsessed.

Next, we stopped in to chat with our amazing friend Stephanie Allin. We loved every single piece Stephanie had to offer and loved getting to catch up with our favorite lady from Wales. We are currently planning our trip to Mumbles - if only there wasn't a huge pond separating us!

Following our busy day at The Piers, we headed over to Il Buco to grab a bite at dinner. Kara, Ella, and Teresa all ordered the same amazing kale salad and Morgan started with a tasty tomato salad. Kara and Morgan both had an amazing pasta dish while Teresa and Ella decided to opt for risotto dishes. Every single thing we ate at Il Buco was perfection.

New York isn't complete without the chance to see a show on Broadway and we wanted Morgan to get the full experience. We headed over to see Aladdin on Broadway and were completely obsessed with the show.

Sidenote: Kara has had a longtime love affair with crop tops stemming from her favorite childhood Disney movie - Aladdin. For three years straight, Kara went as Jasmine for Halloween. Better than that, though, she coerced our grandmother into creating crop tops for her to wear around. It goes without saying - Kara is loving the crop top bridal trend we have been seeing!

Sunday

To start our Sunday, we headed to Haute Bride at The London (which is where we stayed too!) to select some amazing gorgeous jewelry and accessories for both our Huntsville and Nashville locations.

After our early morning appointment with Haute Bride, we headed to brunch at The Balthazar Restaurant. We loved everything we tried - from the onion soup to the steak frites to the oysters to the beef stroganoff.

Next, we headed to The Couture Show, which is put on by The Knot, to see two designers who were showing there - Palazzo by Jane White and Toni Federici.

We were head over heels in love with Palazzo's gowns and getting to see Jane was such a pleasure - we absolutely adore her!

Following our time at The Couture Show, we headed to the Garment District to catch Anna Maier's Runway Show. Charles always puts on such an amazing runway show. Like usual, Anna Maier's Collection was filled with stunning lace and luxurious satin options.

Monday

We woke up and headed to Tara La Tour to see her newest collection. Tara La Tour uses the most amazing fabrics and creates pieces that are so unique - perfect for the Nashville bride!

We could have literally gotten every dress in her collection - absolutely in love with every piece. And even more in love with Tara herself - who is the sweetest designer ever!

Sidenote: Tara showed at Leonardo Dicaprio's old apartment. We were so in love with the flat and couldn't believe we were hanging out in Leo's den!

Next, we trotted over to Anna Maier for our writing appointment. At the appointment, we found some amazing pieces for both our Alabama bridal shop and Tennessee bridal shop. We love the way Anna Maier gowns fit the bride and the quality can't be matched! Truly a couture masterpiece!

After a full morning of all things bridal, we headed to The Spotted Pig in West Village for a yummy lunch. We found The Spotted Pig when we went to market with our grandmother a few markets ago and have made it a must eat location ever since!

Finally, we headed to our Ines di Santo writing appointment. We are so excited to be bringing Ines di Santo to our Huntsville bridal shop and can't wait until her gowns are in store! Everything was literally breathtaking!

Even though we were finished with our bridal appointments, we weren't finished with our time in the City. We headed to The Bohemian for an amazing dinner. We absolutely loved this speakeasy.

New Trends

As always, we saw tons of new trends during bridal market. Our owners shared some of their favorite new trends and why they are excited about the upcoming year of showing these trends off to brides.

One of my favorite trends spotted at bridal market was the incorporation of gold into accessories. While some of our designers had started incorporating gold into their accessories, we saw a full blast of gold from all of our designers and we are giddy over it!
— Ella Kinsland, White Dresses Co-Founder and Nashville Boutique Owner
I am still head over heels for the lace sleeves we are seeing at market. This trend started a few seasons back, but we are seeing all of our designers incorporating sleeves at this point. I am excited to dress brides across Alabama in options that are slightly different than your traditional strapless gown.
— Morgan Bolen, Huntsville Boutique Owner
I am loving illusions still. We saw lots of lace illusions at all of our designers. We also are seeing a slightly sexier feel for bridal this market and I am elated about that. Oh - and crop tops! I’m a sucker for crop tops!
— Kara Leonard, White Dresses Co-Founder and Nashville Boutique Owner
