One of the most important vendors to enlist for your wedding day is your hair and makeup artist - they help to create the full look you are desiring for wedding day and their work will be front and center in every picture your photographer snaps! Over the years we have had the opportunity to meet so many talented vendors, including hair and makeup artists. Few have stood out as much as Brittany Massey. Her work is simply captivating and she has been featured on just about every wedding blog out there! We love her classic styles and fresh approach to makeup and hair, but maybe our favorite part about Brittany is her sweet spirit and truly caring personality! Brittany radiates joy and we love that about her! We sat down with Brittany to learn about her business, share about the type of makeup and hair options she loves to do, and learn about the amazing services she offers to Alabama brides, Tennessee brides, and brides from across the Southeastern United States! Q: How did you get into the wedding industry?

A: When I was in college at Alabama, a ministry I was involved in decided to enter me in the Mrs. Corolla pageant. Having zero idea how to do pageant hair and makeup, the place I got my dress from offered to let the lady who did hair and makeup for them come to the pageant to do mine. The whole time she was doing my hair and makeup, my heart was bursting with excitement and curiosity, and I could literally sense God telling me that this was part of the journey that he was about to lead me on. That next semester, with a lot of prayer and parental guidance, I switched to cosmetology school. I got introduced into the wedding world by doing some behind the scenes work for Alabama Weddings Magazine and my love for weddings developed. I knew right away it was what I wanted my main focus to be on in doing hair and makeup.

: What type of bride do you normally cater to?

A: I have dealt with quite the variety of brides - from a bride on a budget to the bride with an endless budget! Over the last seven to eight years of doing this, I have been extremely blessed with some of the sweetest and most joyful brides out there. I like to talk with my clients before booking, so I can get to know them, what their wedding is like, what venue they are hosting the wedding at, the wedding style or theme, and the wedding color scheme. By communicating with the brides, I get a feel on whether or not it is a client that will align with my vision and style.

Q: What is your favorite look for wedding day makeup and hair?

A: Honestly, a look that just enhances their natural beauty. One that is soft, yet bold - a look that highlights their features without over doing it or caking the makeup on. I am all for some dramatic smokey eyes, but my favorite looks always end up being the ones that are softer and speak for themselves.

Q: Are there any new trends or styles that you would suggest brides to look into?

A: I've seen more brides lately wanting their hair down and not overly curled or messy. It is a very classic look and a very timeless look. It also allows the bride to look more like themselves, instead of having an up-do in which they normally never do. I've loved creating those looks.

Q: What is your favorite part of a wedding?

A: Oh goodness! Just one part? I seriously love it all, but if I had to pick - it would be the moment right before the bride and groom say "I do" and kiss. You can sense the anticipation and excitement bouncing between the bride and groom - becoming so evident that they literally can't wait to speak those words!

Q: Why is it important to hire a professional hair and makeup artist?

A: It takes all the pressure off of you or a "friend who is good at it" and allow you to enjoy your day stress and worry free! My favorite thing about being a professional hair and makeup artist is being able to travel to the bride and her maids and allowing them to relax and hang out all day without having to worry about traveling around to a salon or getting stuck in traffic. Getting a professional basically just makes your day stress free!

Q: How early should a bride book a hair and makeup artist?

A: Honestly, after you nail down the date and venue you should reach out to them! You wouldn't think it, but we book up pretty quick! Unlike most other vendors who can book multiple weddings in one weekend, we can only book one or two - so brides should definitely jump on it!

Both our Nashville Bridal Shop and Huntsville Bridal Shop love for our brides to work with amazing hair and makeup artists like Brittany! Brittany Benton Massey is available to book weddings across the Southeastern United States. To book Brittany for your upcoming wedding, engagement or other makeup or hair need, please contact Brittany by calling 205-835-6415. You will be so happy you enlisted her for your event!
