Style Watch: Market Trends

Twice a year, our Southern Bridal Shops travel to New York City for bridal market. While this time is used to pick out new samples for our Birmingham Bridal Shop and Nashville Bridal Shop, it is also a time we can see new trends in the industry emerge as well as to discuss developing trends with designers and other shops around the world. We are excited to see where the industry is heading and are excited to share some of the trends we noticed as being evident amongst all of our designers.

Simplicity at It’s Finest

Many moons ago when I was taking a writing class in high school, we were taught about the acronym KISS (keep it simple, stupid). Since that time, I have reminded myself that the acronym is around for a reason. Simplicity in bridal wear pushes the focus back on the bride’s own beauty, allowing it to speak for itself without any distractions. At this market we saw an overwhelming amount of simplistic dresses, with many of our designers who are known more for intricate detailing creating simple, timeless designs.

If you’ve been into the shop, you know we love simple gowns. As we always say, it takes a truly talented designer to create a simplistic gown that hangs perfectly on the body. Check out some of our favorite simple gowns below.

Black Detailing

The runway this season was full of black accents - from bows to ribbons this trend made us giddy at the stark contrast up against our normally white washed selection of gowns. We love a pop of color on a gown and selecting a detail that is a color (rather than the entire dress) will still make our traditional leaning moms in both Alabama and Tennessee happy. Check out some of our favorite gowns with black detailing below.

Capes + Capelets

While this trend isn’t new on the scene, this season we were presented with some fresh cover up ideas for brides who are willing to add a slightly daring look to their bridal wardrobe. From sheer capes to the more opaque capes - we love this trend and hope our brides feel as strongly about it as we do! Check out some of our favorite capes and caplets from this market below!

Poet Sleeves

Y’all, this season was all about the poet sleeves. These romantic sleeves graced so many runways and we were all about this couture look! While the sleeves definitely stole the show, the gowns underneath them were also stars and can be ordered with or without (and some come as detachable options!). Check out some gorgeous poet sleeves below.

Take the Plunge

If you love the plunging neckline, you are in luck! We saw more plunges this season mixed in with more modest pieces. We love a good plunging neckline and so do our brides. Check out a few of our favorite plunging neckline gowns from market below.

The Price is Right

Ok, so this is not really a trend or style note from market, but we are so proud of our designers right now because they have listened to our brides! We saw so many gorgeous gowns at every price point. Whether you have a $2,000 budget or a $20,000 budget we feel like we have the largest selection ever coming in for everyone! Budget is always important to us when looking at gowns and we are so excited to be able to offer so many timeless and incredible looks at each price point we offer.

Hopefully this market review makes you as excited as we are about shopping our upcoming collections. We’ve been a little silent on the blog (whoops!) so check back this month as we catch up on some of the weddings and other exciting news we have been too busy enjoying to keep you updated on!
